The French Lady

A little piece of my soul died today.
There is was an old building near my house where the French Lady (a lingerie boutique, where mannequins wearing lingerie stood in dimly red lit windows) was located and next to it a Grecian Garden's restaurant, where they had belly dancers that performed for you during your meal.  A few years ago the Grecian Garden's was torn down and for the past few weeks as I drive by I think how I need to go and photograph that other building before they (whoever they are... the devil I presume) tears it down. Well today after work I drove by and it was gone.... My reaction was, Noooooo! They tore it down! And I actually felt tears starting to fill up in my eyes.

For some reason, that is hard to explain, there is a special place in my heart for buildings and a large piece of my heart dies every time I see another building getting torn down. There are so many buildings in Murray that have been torn down and I regretfully admit that many of them I cannot even remember. I don't even remember what stood before the Costco and the IMC hospital...

Here is what remains of the beloved French Lady

  1. Are you just kidding about the hospital and Costco...? That's where the smokestacks were... I agree - sometimes I feel really sad about old buildings getting torn down too. I cried when the smokestacks were blown up and when they tore down our beloved Murray High. My dad went to MHS in the same old building as us and we used to walk through it together and reminisce about our school days (for the one year that it remained standing after I graduated).

  2. I don't feel quite so sentimental about The French Lady though. But I do have fond memories of saying, "Look! The French Lady!!" every time we drove past it.

  3. Where costco and IMC are now was from the corner of 54th abd state ..... a little restaurant I believe called Grannys, Murray Feed, a car lot, and a few others I can't remember. The smoke stacks were back there also. Across the street was a furniture place them the armory.

  4. Oh yeah! Murray Feed! I do remember that!
I though the smoke stacks were farther back. I guess I was thinking about what was on state street. Am I remembering that right?
